A Different Kind of Recruiter

What Makes Me a Different Kind of Recruiter?

I was talking with a friend yesterday about recruiting, networking, developing/ maintaining good working relationships.  She asked me why I started my own company and what I wanted to do differently.  It was a great conversation.

Basically, I set out to be the kind of recruiter who cares. I care about my candidates (job seekers).  I care about my clients (companies).  And, I sleep well at night knowing I am ethical, honest and try to help people to the best of my ability.

Calm Water Business Partner, LLC

The company was started in the spring of 2009 as a small, highly-networked, woman-owned recruiting firm.  We provide expert, ethical, honest recruiting services mostly in the New England area.  We work with all levels of candidates across a wide range of disciplines and industries.

That sounds like all the other recruiters.  The exception is I have an extensive background in human resources and an MBA with a concentration in Organizational Behavior.  In addition, I have decades of recruiting work experience.  I’ve worked for several small to mid-sized companies and a few large corporations.  I’ve held several different titles and worn dozens of different hats.  I understand what is important to a company when they are interviewing and what is important to a job seeker.  I can see the big picture from multiple angles and sides and respect those different views.

My background is not in sales.  While I am paid a commission by my client companies, I am actually more motivated to find the right candidate for them for another reason:

It is truly important to me that the company and the employee be a good fit and want to work together.

Wrong candidate + wrong company = terrible relationship for everyone

Right candidate + right company = solid on-going relationship for everyone

When everyone is happy, it makes me happy too.  On top of this, I get paid to recruit and this is very much like loving football and getting paid to play.
